THE TERROR ATTACK OF BLACK SATURDAY
On the seventh of October 2023, the terror attack known as Black Saturday confronted the State of Israel and all its residents with profound and painful challenges. Civil initiatives became a crucial force in addressing the immediate and urgent needs that emerged in Israeli society during the initial weeks of the conflict. These initiatives provided rescue, evacuation, hospitality, food, medicine, and transportation of people and equipment. Although most volunteer activities were primarily focused on meeting basic needs, the contribution of professional volunteers also stood out. Their efforts required specialized training and the acquisition of appropriate equipment.
One particularly noteworthy initiative was launched by SHAHAK at the onset of the war on October 10, 2023. This initiative aimed to deliver immediate emergency repair services to homes in southern Israel and the Gaza Strip for citizens who continued to reside in their homes. Through the dedicated efforts of dozens of fully trained volunteers, supported by qualified professionals, SHAHAK has assisted thousands of families with urgent repairs, including water pipe repairs, electrical malfunctions, and window and door repairs.
The war of "Iron Swords" persists, it is imperative for us to expand and enhance our volunteer efforts to provide services tailored to the vulnerable populations affected by the events of October 7. We also aim to support the families of the victims and the deceased by reinforcing our professional teams. These teams will focus on urgent infrastructure repairs and renovations, such as replacing water boilers, fixing electrical and water faults, and making homes and bathrooms accessible to individuals who have become disabled as a result of the war.
Our mission is to aid those in need and provide them with swift solutions, free from bureaucratic obstacles and delays. We earnestly appeal to you to become partners in this vital endeavor.
